I’ve been torn on how to do this, but after doing some google research I think I’ve found the best way to translate these new songs to the stage. I first saw a band incorporate an iPod for backing tracks when I saw The Presets open for Ladytron. It was at The First Avenue in Minneapolis and I was in the balcony right by the stage. The drummer had an iPod next to him that he would inconspicuously fire up at a songs beginning. The singer had his own synth in front of him that he played while he sang. It was great and the show was not hampered by the backing track iPod at all. So as I said I went googling other bands that use iPods and through a great forum found a better option for me, the Digitech JamMan. You can load it with backing tracks and trigger it with a foot pedal as well. So I can trigger a song start while playing the guitar and singing, no iPod needed. This would be the solo show option, I’d love to have a live drummer and guitarist along with the backing tracks leaving me to sing and play guitar possibly. one step at a time.
